How we work with young people
We do this in a number of ways, including youth-led projects, focus groups and listening labs. We then use our findings to create accessible content.
We make sure that our findings are communicated to the people who run local services, so they know how to best support young people and help make their services as accessible as possible.
Get involved
Children and Young People are one of our key focuses in our current Workplan, which you can read all about here.
Young Healthwatch is concentrating on two projects in 2024/25.
Ru-OK access to drugs/alcohol services
We finalised the work and outcomes from our engagement with young LGBTQ+ people which explored barriers to accessing support services.
Children and Young People were asked for their views about how substance misuse services, sexual health services and therapeutic support services could better engage with them.
I hope that through our shared experiences, we can change services for the better. I'm grateful for the passion of other young people and the professionals working these services, and it's seeing that passion that makes me believe change is possible.
Tell us about your experiences of Vapes and Vaping
Are you aged between 16-25 and have a Special Educational Need or Disability SEN(D)?
Collaborating with AMAZE and PACC, we're exploring young people with SEN(D)'s use of vaping as an alternative to smoking.
We want to understand more about:
- Your experiences of vaping
- Your awareness of advertising and promotion of vaping
- Your beliefs about the harms of vaping
- How young people could be supported to stop vaping.
Share your experiences with us by taking part in this quick and easy survey.
The closing date for our survey is Friday 31st January 2025.
As a thank you for taking part, Healthwatch Brighton and Hove are pleased to offer 3 x £50 high street vouchers in a prize draw. You can register for the prize draw at the end of the survey. Good luck!

Have you had your annual STI screening?
Everyone who is sexually active is recommended to test for STIs and HIV on at least an annual basis. Sexually transmitted infections are not uncommon among people who are sexually active. The most common ones are chlamydia and gonorrhoea but, thankfully, they're easy to treat.
